The act series1/2/2023 ![]() Second, McConnell's insistence that the Voting Rights Act of 1965 is "still on the books" is disingenuous nonsense - and he knows it. This has been a priority for the party for quite a while - they first took up the For the People Act last year - and Democratic leaders would be pushing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act regardless of the larger political circumstances. After a couple of hours, I couldn’t resist reading the BuzzFeed story, after which my desire to keep watching the series took a major hit.First, the idea that Democrats are only pretending to be interested in voting rights, as part of a ruse to distract the public, is plainly silly. ( Mommy Dead and Dearest clocked in at fewer than 90 minutes.) There are twists and turns to the central relationship and the reason it comes to a violent end, but the story starts to feel repetitive quickly, and the lead performances (and nimble direction by Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, Adam Arkin and others) can only mask that for so long. The Act, though, runs into the same problem Dannemora did: a story that’s ultimately not capable of sustaining around eight hours of television. Both actors are terrific, but King is more likely the one people will be talking about after. She not only undergoes a severe physical metamorphosis but has to wildly shift her persona from one scene to the next, depending who’s watching and how independently minded Gypsy Rose is feeling in that moment. ![]() Dee Dee is a much richer role than Tilly was - her personality and temperament are more varied, and she’s far better at manipulating people (albeit in stomach-churning ways at times) than Tilly ever hoped to be - but the performance feels less thrilling solely due to the bad timing of coming second on the calendar. This is Arquette’s second de-glammed true-crime performance in the last few months, following her acclaimed (and probably Emmy front-running) turn as Tilly Mitchell, the prison-employee-turned-accomplice in Showtime’s Escape at Dannemora. But when she begins an online relationship with a troubled young man (Calum Worthy, even creepier than he was in American Vandal Season One), the abusive codependence becomes more than she can handle. Gypsy obviously knows that some - and maybe all - of what she and Dee Dee tell the world about her isn’t true her reasons for playing along are complicated and tragic. The scripts by Dean and Antosca and the performances by the two leads do a fine job exploring the murky power dynamic between mother and child. And that’s all well before we get to the violent events that inspire the series’ framing device. Soon, though, it becomes clear to the viewer that Gypsy Rose isn’t nearly as sick as her mother claims, and a new doctor begins to wonder if this might be a case of Munchausen by proxy, where a parent deliberately makes their child seem ill to feel needed. Their new neighbor Mel (Chloë Sevigny) senses something not quite right in their story, but Gypsy Rose is so clearly sick, and just as sweet, that Mel and her friends welcome them into the community. The story bounces around in time between the 2015 discovery of a body in the Blanchard home and mother and daughter’s arrival several years earlier at that house, which was built for them through Habitat for Humanity after they lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. ![]() Dee Dee ( Patricia Arquette) is overworked single mother to Gypsy Rose (Joey King), a wheelchair-bound, bald, chronically-ill teenage girl who speaks in a squeaky voice and, according to Dee Dee, has the mental capacity of a seven-year-old. There's a lot of negativity and questions around the merit and purpose of emulation. So, without further delay, let's get started with the August Progress Report! Enjoy.Įmulation is often seen as this suspect gray area of gaming that is tolerated but always on the edge. All of these contributions, even if it's not code, are appreciated and help make Dolphin what it is today. They went on difficult debugging adventures, caught small issues that would be invisible to anyone who wasn't extremely familiar with the game, and even came up with patches to make games friendlier to emulator enhancements. In this Progress Report, the gaming communities were the direct catalyst to many of the changes. However, it's important to state that our relationship with gaming communities is mutual, and without the help of players and fans, there's no way we could handle maintaining a library of thousands of games. Sometimes it's simply more convenient to use an emulator that runs on your desktop, tablet, or phone rather than to dig out and hook up the original console every time you want to play one of your favorite games. Emulators are an important part of many classic game communities and give players access to features like netplay multiplayer, modding, and savestates, while also opening up the doors to enhancements not possible on console. Many gaming communities over the years have reached out to thank emulator developers for their efforts. ![]() ![]() Please enjoy these rather lengthy Notable Changes! With that out of the way, there's no point in delaying things any further. While it's not related to Dolphin directly, Apple released the new M1 Max and we got our hands on one to see how it stacks up against the M1 with some rather interesting performance numbers at the end of the report. This beta was mostly to showcase and let users on the Play Store try out the newly finished Cheat GUI! We'll finally showcase that after a lengthy delay between when that extra beta was pushed and this Progress Report. Speaking of Android, users may have noticed we pushed out an early beta last month. An easy to use GUI for launching Riivolution mods was added both to desktop Dolphin builds and Android. If that wasn't enough, Dolphin also welcomed support for a wealth of mods through support for Riivolution. The fact that the PlayStation 2's floating point behaviors mattered to us for this Progress Report should tell you the kinds of things we were up against when writing up the changes. This Progress Report also contains collaboration with the PCSX2 development team as they helped us understand some of the behaviors of Floating Point Math on the PlayStation 2. Trying to even begin to rectify the problems with this approach and explain the reasoning behind why it sort of wasn't emulated go very, very deep. Dolphin's approach to emulating this bit of the hardware has been to effectively ignore it exists. The first rabbit hole showcases TMEM, the GameCube and Wii's texture cache. ![]() That line doesn't exactly work when it's midway through the month, huh? This Progress Report ended up being a very technically challenging report to write with several huge rabbit holes that go through the history of Dolphin and the games themselves. It's the beginning of the month and time for another Dolphin Progress Report!. Wu at the time was only planning on being an executive producer but threw his hat in the ring to star. “It was a three-way partnership of all of us getting into a room and sharing our mutual love of martial arts,” said Gough. Sher brought in Hong Kong martial arts stars Stephen Fung and Wu, who she became acquainted with during production of Contagion. “We pitched the show to AMC and nobody else,” said Millar. The duo met with Django Unchained producers Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg, who they knew socially, and as luck had it, they had a deal at AMC, which was looking for such fare. Sasser worm virus12/31/2022 "People are beginning to realize that there are a lot of vulnerabilities out there and they need to take a more proactive rather than a reactive approach." "The people doing these attacks are getting much better at it," says Steven Solomon, chief executive officer of Citadel Security Software. More disturbing, say security experts, is that the rapid spread of Sasser proves virus writers are getting better at developing such malicious software - and at a much faster pace. ![]() Sasser is reported to have infected computers of England's Coast Guard, German banks, and even here at ABCNEWS. "So they're less likely to have antivirus software or keep up to date on patches."īut that's not to say that major corporate networks got off scot-free. "General public aren't aware of these threats," says Hale. Some security experts estimate that as much as 80 percent of the infected computers in the United States belonged to home users with those fast, always-on Internet connections. "But the real target for this worm is the home user with a broadband connection." Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) which is now part of the U.S. "Major companies and government agencies for the most part have corporate antivirus systems and firewalls, so they tend to be protected from this type of attack," says Lawrence Hale, deputy director of the U.S. "Just a slow down of Internet traffic or your PC as it tries to infect other PCs," he says.Īnother point of differentiation: Sasser hit home users and universities the hardest. For one, Sasser caused no permanent damage on infected computers, says Gullotto. ![]() "It's a pure Internet worm similar to others that we saw like Blaster and Slammer worms and even a couple of years ago like Code Red."īut Gullotto notes that there are noticeable differences from those other worms. "This is one of the very few that doesn't require mass to move," says anti-virus expert Vincent Gullotto, vice president of Network Associates' McAfee Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team. The rapid online infection occurred in part because unlike typical computer viruses, worms such Sasser spread automatically - no user interaction or infected e-mail required. Since its discovery on April 30, Sasser is believed to have infected hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide. And even though Microsoft released a patch, or fix, for the defect on April 13, Sasser spread quickly. The worm took advantage of a flaw in Microsoft's Windows software first discovered in October. That's because a fast spreading worm called "Sasser" has been winding its way around the global computer network. Nancy Anderson, Microsoft’s vice president and deputy general counsel, said the company was not disappointed that Jaschan won’t go to prison. Virus writers have received sentences reduced before because of their age, though an American teenager who created a version of the 2003 “Blaster” worm was sentenced to 18 months in prison. “In many ways, Sven Jaschan was lucky that the police caught him when they did.” “Sven Jaschan avoided a jail sentence by the skin of his teeth because he was arrested within days of his 18th birthday,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for anti-virus vendor Sophos PLC. But, because he was a minor when arrested, prosecutors had only sought a two-year suspended sentence. Jaschan could have been sentenced to up to five years in prison. To do this, put your cursor between the two letters and open the Character Panel (Window > Character). I also wanted to take out some of the excess space between the ‘W’ and the ‘a’. I also wanted just the “W” to be bigger, so I highlighted that letter and changed the point size to 300 pt. So, add a new blank layer, then change your typeface to Gabriola, 110 pt. In order to add a new type layer and change the font and point size without it changing my first type layer, I find it easiest to add a new blank layer before making changes for my second type layer. (Of course, you can use fonts you have or like.) I selected the color from the dark area of the texture (#2d3a37), then typed the word “Happiness”. I thought that this texture looks like waves on a beach, so I decided to add a “beachy” saying, “Happiness comes in Waves”. If you don’t like the darker spots flowing through the center, add a Layer Mask and remove them! I then changed the Blending Mode of the top texture to Color Burn, and lowered the opacity to 75%. I then used the “handles” to rotate the texture and further align with the base texture, like this: However, to get the curves of each to be heading the same direction, I flipped the Poster Texture Vertically (Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical). ![]() I chose this texture as I liked the curve of the color in the texture – I thought it was similar to the curve of the Flow texture. I began with an item from “108 Flow Liquid Textures”, #3.
